Crescent Moon & a Starling Murmuration
Went out at dusk today in the Pershore Wetlands ( Worcestershire, England, UK) - a lovely evening with a bright crescent moon and a murmuration of starlings wriggling around the sky like some mythical monster. Brilliant !

Abell 12: The "Hidden" Planetary Nebula
This magnitude 12.4 planetary nebula in Orion has been called the "hidden" nebula because it is mostly obscured in images and when observing due to its proximity to the bright mag 4 white main sequence star, Mu Orionis. However, using OIII and Ha filters in addition to LRGB to tame the star, and with careful processing, the nebula is quite apparent.

Window to the Milky Way
Copyright: Tunç Tezel
Milky Way of summer and winter shines over a high forest lake near Bozcaarmut village in Bilecik province, about 100 km due east of my hometown Bursa, Turkey. This is an occasionally visited lakeside with dark skies and also good spots for fishing, camping and barbecue, especially in summer. This pair of pictures work really well together, nicely showing the difference of the summer and winter sky and especially Milky Way. The foreground has some interesting changes as well, like the calm and clear look of the lake in summer, while it is misty and foggy in winter. The autumn colours of the trees in the winter picture is also interesting; this was caused by the weather being much warmer than usual before new year.

Earth shine
This is a dramatic phenomenon known as "Earthshine." Just a thin sliver of the moon at the bottom of the image is illuminated directly by the sun. The rest of the moon is seen indirectly, lit up by light reflected off of the Earth, what we see is Sun light reflected from the Earth to the Moon and back to our eyes.

Souls of Castelluccio - Double Star Trail
www.dariogiannobile.com
Copyright: Dario Giannobile Many graves, encarved in the rocks like the ones in Panalica UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE, lay on the ground in the necropolis of Castelluccio, between Noto and Palazzolo Acreide 's countriside in Sicily -Italy. Warm lights enhance the frame of the tombs from inside. The idea behind the use of the lights is to put the observer in the condition to feel the supernatural dimension of this magic place but at the same time the warm colors trasmit a feeling of confort remembering the hearth fire; the star trails transmit a feeling of time flowing over a very old place (2200-1800 b.c.). The use of a mirror allows to have in the same image both the north and south pole.
