The last of my tomatoes January 4 2021.jpg
January 5, 2021! Better pick these three cherry tomatoes soon. They hang from a plant grown on my balcony. The plant is almost all dead, but not quite, and the tomatoes look juicy.

I keep my oranges on the chair below the tomatoes, where they - the oranges - stay nice and cold and perfect for making freshly squeezed orange juice! I sure didn't grow them myself, however.

Are you sowing seeds in the open land? My wife prefers to germinate seeds at home under grow lights, and then she plants ready-made seedlings in open soil. Our seedlings are now growing under King Plus lamps. A couple of years ago, we tried grow lights and compared the results - it's better with them than catching random rays of the sun in early spring.

I'll just poke them into the ground along the back yard fence the end of April or early May; morning glories are tough and don"I need much more than a little rain and a lot of sunshine! :D

Blue iris March 14 2021.jpg
Tussilago March 14 2021.jpg

The small blue irises grow on the ground belonging to our condominium. The yellow Tussilago farfara, by contrast, grows in the southern outskirts of Malmö.

Of course I'm extremely happy to see the blue irises, but I'm sure glad to see the yellow Tussilago farfara, too, as it is a true harbinger of spring! :D

You mean tulips like these, Orin? They are lovely. I haven't seen any tulips around here.

Daffodils March 22 2021.jpg
Hepaticas March 22 2021.jpg

But I found the first daffodils today not far from where I live. And there are some hepaticas, too.

Wish I knew, Orin! But I don't think they look exactly the same!

Hi Ann! I planted Chamomile in my Broken grill one year! The wind must have replanted them; because they come back every year around May in my backyard :lol2:

Hepaticas, fully open

Your daffodils and Red Riding hood tulips look great, Orin. You used to have Parrot tulips, too? They are lovely!

Can't resist posting another picture of the hepaticas, now that they are fully open.

Been having nice spring weather lately, 50s in the day, dipping just around freezing at night. So I've had my eyes peeled for the first wildflowers. Typically early April, and a race between little Easter Daisies (Townsendia hookeri) and Pasque flowers. The daisies won this year, as I saw these while out walking the dogs.

We call those "wildflowers" and love to see them, and the butterflies they attract.

Yup; that's true; but they take over a lawn pretty much, so we keep them in check! They blow back in from the neighborhood each year; so we always have them! When I was a younger I made some wine out of them! The wine was OK; but I didn't like it so I gave it away!

I've seen just a few of them here. The first ones of the year make me happy. The later ones don't.

But I don't hate them! I'm not responsible for the lawns of our condominium, and I don't mind seeing a few dandelions there, even if I vastly prefer the lovely daisies. But I don't hate flowers, particularly if they are not poisonous or itchy or thorny. Perhaps a hungry little bee or bumble-bee might even have a little drink of nectar out of them. Really, dandelions haven't done anything bad in their lives, except having way, way too many kids and grandkids. And great-grandkids. And great-great-grandkids. And great-great-great-grandkids. And... Okay, Orin, I see what you mean!

Heavenly blue April 102021.jpg

This is the time of year when the color of the sky descends on the Earth and settles in the old cemetery in downtown Malmö. At right you can see what the scillas look like up close.
