Re: Bugs? Problems? Report them here!
In the last month or two there have been a dozen or so posts that quoted a recent post above them and were just the same thing rephrased. Pretty clearly AI generated. Why? Hard to say for sure.johnnydeep wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 10:49 pmAlright. Yes, I've reported many myself, or at least the ones that revealed a tiny embedded URL when the post was quoted. They often come in spates and involve older APODs.Chris Peterson wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:13 pmIn the last month or two there have been a dozen or so posts that quoted a recent post above them and were just the same thing rephrased. Yeah, the ones that hide URLs (sometimes in the quoted section) it's easy to see the motive. They don't all do that, though.johnnydeep wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:35 pmYes, I've reported many myself, or at least the ones that revealed a tiny embedded URL when the post was quoted. Except that the URLs are essentially invisible and unclickable, so there's no point to it.Chris Peterson wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:42 pmYeah, the ones that hide URLs (sometimes in the quoted section) it's easy to see the motive. I've seen clickable ones. They replace the original URL in the quote with a new one that goes to some spam site or maybe a site trying to deliver something malicious. I don't click on them, just report them if they've changed anything in the quoted section.johnnydeep wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:55 pmExcept that the URLs are essentially invisible and unclickable, so there's no point to it.Chris Peterson wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:42 pmYeah, the ones that hide URLs (sometimes in the quoted section) it's easy to see the motive. Just checking to confirm that my supremely inter-galactic (not laxative [re Donavon]) prowess is still online.

The current picture of the day (today, 2024-12-01) web page does not load correctly or display anything, because there is no closing tag on the "title" header. The direct link to today's web page - https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap241201.html - is fine.

Kinda ironic given that the nature of today's image is a featureless beige image...
