We had Voynich under discussion before on:
  • 2002 August 26 (can't find the thread)
  • 2005 January 22:
  • 2010 January 31 - ongoning thread is at page 6, but moderators started arguments with crackpots and are splitting posts - which is sure sign of thread's ultimate destiny waiting around the corner.
So, place your bets - when will it happen this time? P.s. @geckzilla maybe enable polls in this forum?

Dr. Boris Nemiroff has created A MONSTER :!:

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: From that fateful day when stinking bits of slime first crawled from the sea and shouted to the cold stars, "I am man.", our greatest dread has always been the knowledge of our mortality. But tonight, we shall hurl the gauntlet of science into the frightful face of death itself. Tonight, we shall ascend into the heavens. We shall mock the earthquake. We shall command the thunders, and penetrate into the very womb of impervious nature herself.

More people check APOD every few days than every day. Some check once a week. Some when a space news event happens that interests them, perhaps once a month. I would give the "once-a-weekers" a chance to have a look and comment and then lock it soon thereafter.

Also, APOD readership turns over, so that a good fraction of people who saw the Voynich APOD this time never saw it before on the two previous APODs. I would guess that most of the posters on this topic have not seen it before or would not have commented this time around. My hope was that the diverse APOD readership would include someone with a unique background or perspective that would add key insight to this long standing problem. I also consider the APOD readership to be a powerful and unique form of collective intelligence, and I wish I had more good problems to pose for them!
