Well, I hold the record for most posts per day since joining two years ago

Hi Art,

Interesting! Now I figured Bystander or MakC would have pulled the stats but I see you’re quite a statistician yourself! Congratulations on holding the record for the most posts in the northern hemisphere.

And congratulations to Harry for the most planet wide!

I believe it's quality not quantity that matters BTW. And that makes it somewhat subjective doesn't it.

I think that's a close race.

Well, yes; but to paraphrase George Costanza of _Seinfeld_:
  • I'm never gonna have another child at this point.
So if I lose this Asterisk high score,
that's pretty much it for me.

You may well hold those records. I have no easy way of counting my own posts. I actually signed up in 2004, using the handle 'cloudbait', to participate in the discussion about the Darwin "meteorite". I entered into occasional discussions after that, but at some point the account simply stopped working. It wasn't recognized as existing, but at the same time any attempt to create it again failed with the complaint that the account already existed. You can still find my posts in old discussions, but the 'cloudbait' member name doesn't link to any profile. So I just created a new account as 'Chris Peterson' in 2007. My actual posting statistics are split across those two accounts- one of which isn't even in the database. Ain't computers grand?

Just FYI, I did a database query and Chris's old account had precisely 28 posts.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

I am assuming that is due to a glitch in the records unless Chris states otherwise.

Chris Peterson was around since 2004  I seem to remember him posting only last year or so... and how could he beat Harry is beyond me.

If I click on "Members" and then twice on "Posts", a list comes up listing Asterisk posters ranked by how many posts they have made. It seems to give the same names but different numbers. Are these numbers accurate?

28 sounds a little low, but your estimate is almost certainly very high. I posted occasionally from 2004 to 2007, but I'd be surprised if the number of posts was more than one or two hundred. I'm perfectly happy to just use the value reported for my current account, since that's where I've made the vast majority of posts.

Well, that does make life a lot easier. :)
Let's try:

Code: Select all

Harry 2833 / 1.84 ppd since Fri Nov 18, 2005 / G'day G'day G'day G'day
Neufer 2384 / 3.19 ppd since Mon Jan 21, 2008 / Quotidian Quotationist
Chris Peterson 2155 / 1.93 ppd since Tue Dec 07, 2004 / Expert Cloud Angler
BMAONE23 1969 / 1.09 ppd since Wed Feb 23, 2005 / Commentator Model 1.23
bystander 1833 / 1.46 ppd since Mon Aug 28, 2006 / Science Officer
orin stepanek 1526 / 0.92 ppd since Wed Jul 27, 2005 / Resident Geezer
makc 1422 / 0.73 ppd since Tue Oct 12, 2004 / Best Title in the Universe
apodman 1173 / 1.30 ppd since Wed Aug 15, 2007 / Teapot Fancier (MIA)
The next 'very active' member to join the club will probably be geckzilla (but he still has a ways to go).

Some old posts could have been deleted but the count is as accurate as possible. 26 of the posts were from the bug photo and none after January 2005. I really do wonder what happened to this board that would have caused such a thing.

Before she becomes a very active poster, or before she becomes a he?

It's ok Chris, there are plenty of other things to joke about.

Sputnik doesn't count until he actually succeeds at getting a single account to 1000 posts. And re: girls - the only other female I know of who has not yet been mentioned is FieryIce. I'm sure there's a few others who only posted once or a couple times, though. I noticed science does tend to bore the average girl, though. I mean, there are so much more interesting things out there! Like George Clooney's hair or what Michelle Obama wore last week!

I would look silly if I spoke about girly matters to other men. I assume same goes to girls, hence not many of them dare to cross the line.

edit: waht's up with his hair, btw?

I never knew the gender of Nereid. Of course it never mattered. I did stumble across a post by Nereid to a different board that gave the impression that Nereid was an older gentleman, however. I don't have that link available, though. Are you sure, makc, that (our) Nereid was a "she"?

I assumed Nereid was a she. Seems an odd moniker for a he.
