Calm, Crescent Moon, and Venus

Explanation: Last weekend, the Moon and Venus formed a beautiful close pair in the west after sunset, a scene enjoyed by skygazers all over the world. In this lovely view of the conjunction from Sweden, a calm lake Vallentuna lies in the foreground with sunset colors still fading behind the treeline on the far shore. The young Moon's sunlit crescent is bright, but its entire outline can be seen by Earthshine, light reflected from planet Earth itself. For well-placed skygazers, on Sunday, May 16 the Moon actually occulted (passed in front of) brilliant Venus. For many, the occultation was visible during daylight hours.

I've just added two pictures to the aforementioned thread, and I may add another later today.

Paul, yes, it was a beautiful sight! I went biking on Sunday night -- this on trails through woods and around a lake and all -- and it was completely dark by the time I got back to my car. I loaded up the bike, drove away from the small neighborhood park, waiting for a traffic light, made a left turn, and there they were: the moon and Venus in all their glory, right in front of me! So pretty, the two of them hanging in the western sky!

Now c'mon guys....if these were "occult" pictures, they would be Pentagraphic. But all it really is - is that "ed" was on vacation

Actually these Venus---Moon pictures should be listed under Realestate - why you ask --- because its Location-Location-Location!!

It's a rare day, but the caption on the photo actually misspelled the word Crescent. I only point this out because the quality of this webpage is always superb!
