Aurora - Queen of the night (timelapse from winter 2012/13)
During the past winter I've spent nearly sixty nights outdoors trying to capture some aurora timelapse sequences. My goal was to capture different shapes of auroras (corona, curtain, band, etc) and reflect the moods I felt using the right music. All scenes are shot in various places around Finland. An eight month project is finished now and here is the result.

Re: Video Submissions
I took this video on June 15, 2013 of the setting of the planet Venus with a small Kodak C433 4mp camera and a tripod through my kitchen window in the Sierra-Nevada mountain town of Quincy, California. This 46 second video is 20 times faster than the real time it took, which was 15 minutes. I reduce the video file size and converted it to an animated GIF and set the speed with that and then converted it to an avi video. Then I put it on YouTube and used YouTube's automatic enhancements to brighten it up. You can make out the horizon and tops of the trees and the outline of my kitchen window. Venus is the bright white dot going diagonal from left to right and up to down. At the very last second it disappears into the horizon.

The Little Prince Under northern lIghts
http://astrophotography.fr/
Copyright: Jean-Luc Dauvergne
This year, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Little Prince. This is a good occasion to pay a tribute to his father Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. He published this book for the first time in april 1943. Only one year after he died in the crash of his P-38 lightning.
That's why this winter I took this Little Prince with me in Norway to take this photo under the wonderfull northern lights.

Re: Video Submissions
It is Lightning Safety Awareness Week and I created this video with some facts about lightning and how to stay safe. All photos used are license CC-BY, public domain, or I have permission to use. Music is by Sound Repository. Information is from NOAA. I do want to thank Chris Kotsiopoulos (greeksky.gr) for allowing me to use his photo which is also on APOD | http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100720.html.
Enjoy and stay safe around lightning!
