New Addition
This morning our goat Yentl kidded, producing this little girl. She's got a rear leg that's a bit wonky, but otherwise seems fine. Good conditions, no snow on the ground, sunny with temperatures above 5°C. Yentl is two years old, and this is her first. Between the two we're looking at lots of milk for the foreseeable future.
Gee... she sure was kidding

Here is a shoe that solves the problem "I want a dog for a walk but I dont want to feed it"
Moonlady wrote:Congratulations! The baby is adorable ♥♥♥ what's her name?
No name yet. Esther maybe. We named Yentl's brother Tevya, because he looks like he's got a yarmulke and locks. So some sort of classical Hebrew name seems appropriate. I kind of like Panstarrs given the timing of the birth, but I don't think my wife will go for that.

The two cameras inside the goat barn are pan/tilt, but only from here, so they might not always be pointed at goats. The outside cameras are wider angle and fixed.

He's owned by somebody else, selected for his lineage.

Oh, Chris - that is a lovely photo.
How many hours old was the kid when the photo was taken? Have you given her a name yet?
I've never milked a goat but Paul used to help a friend who lives up on mount Teide to milk her goats and enjoyed revisiting his farming (pre-med-sci research career) childhood. How marvellous that you are able to combine your scientific career with a life that has goats and other animals in it.

Oops, sorry. It autofills on my browser. Connect using 'galgoats' for the user and 'guest' for the password.

She was about a half hour old there. Still working on the name.

Indeed, I can't complain.

Ooh, I have gone all gooey. I've downloaded the photo for my desktop - I hope that is okay, Chris?! - and I can see how very young she is in the enlarged picture.

That would be Hershey (the black and white goat, not my wife).

Hi Chris,
I managed to get to see the head of a goat with the first link, but that's about it. All the rest of the links keep giving me the runaround, in one way or another, whether it's not accepting the password, or keeps wanting me to download the IE kernel. Very frustrating! I'll try the first link again later to see if the goats moved into view better.

Yes, IE tends to be problematic. A more standards compliant browser like Firefox or Chrome will allow the video to be viewed directly, without the need to download an addon.

I just used the first link to view your goat. I got to see just a bit more of it.(your shodows are getting long) But the picture shortly disappeared and the number 1 on the bottom had a yellow spot in it. Maybe i can catch your whole goat tomorrow. Guess I'm just not good at getting people's goats.

Might be my Internet access, as well. Here in the boondocks, what passes for "broadband" would be considered a joke to most people. I guess it only takes two or three people trying to look at a camera at the same time to throw a wrench in things. From here, we watch on the local network, which is much faster.

Already happening. She got onto the roof of the goat shed this afternoon.
BTW, we settled on Esther.

When I was a boy; we had a pair of goats! I remember we used to milk the nanny. I was quite young; and I don't remember what happened to them! I do remember my Dad saying that the nanny got love sick after the billy died!
