I took the photo above last evening (April 22, 2012) from Turin (Italy): it shows a 36 hours old crescent Moon pairing with a bright Jupiter setting behind the peak of Rocciamelone (3,538 m -11,608 ft), a mountain of the Graian Alps near the border between Italy and France that is also famous to be the highest shrine of pilgrimage in Europe.

Best regards

Stefano

NGC 2359, also known as Thor's Helmet, in RGB-Ha-OIII.
It is a quite faint emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. This nebula is approximately 30 light years in size, and it's located about 15,000 light-years away.
Into his center there's an extremely hot Wolf-Rayet star, probably "powering" the nebula.

You can find more explanations on Wolf Rayet stars on my Thor Page

Last night a little before 10 pm I noticed the auroras were visible. It's only the 2nd time I've ever seen the northern lights. I drove and found a dark roadside to shoot some pictures. The auroras really didn't move or change much so I used the opportunity to shoot a 26 minute startrail image. It's made up of 94 pictures shot at 15 seconds, F3.5, iso 800. At the bottom right in the cloud is an Iridium flare I think.

To the vast majority of people, they enjoy the moment of sunrise and sunset.
but have u ever seen the moment of moonrise and moonset?
I'm completely memerized by this beauty.
Now, i will share u with my two pictures ,
Both of them are shoot in this year,at Dashanbao, Yunnan, China.

<<Eye of The Milky Way>>

After the midnight, The Milky Way crossed over the lake, forming a beautiful ellipse with the reflection. While at the moment of moonrise, it spread out golden light that just looked like the eye of The Milky Way.

<<Moonset over the sea of clouds>>

While the moon setting, The Winter Milky Way and jupiter became more and more clear and bright. The colour of the sea of clouds and moon changed quickly as time passed.

The image, captured after sunset on April 24, 2012 from the vantage point of the Cappuccini hill, shows the crescent Moon and super bright Venus putting on a magnificent show over Turin (Italy). On the right is easily recognizable the Mole Antonelliana, symbol of the city.

M106 most detailed image ever... (35 megapixels)

Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:35 pm
by avdhoeven
Here is the final result of my M106 hubble processing. Unfortunately the F435W and F814W data were not clean enough to generate a good color image. So I decided to combine the Hubble data with groundbased data.
This is comparable with what was done with the famous Eta Carina image of Hubble where also groundbased data was used for the color information.

The luminance image was made using the F555W ACS data of project ID 11570 of Adam Riess. 14 images were used to create the mosaic.

For the color data a ground based image made with a 20'' telescope at Kitt Peak was used. This image was used with the kind permission of Adam Block.

Processing and data retrieval: André van der Hoeven
Luminance layer: Hubble legacy archive/NASA/ESA
Color layer: Adrian Zsilavec and Michelle Qualls/Adam Block/NOAO/AURA/NSF

The full resolution can be found here ...
