Supernova SN2012fr in Galaxy NGC1365 taken 03 Nov 2012 usng my remote
telescope at Rancho Hidalgo, NM

Image

I've been taking images each night. The supernova continues to brighten.
It should continue to brighten over the next week or so if it exhibits typical
supernova behavior.

It is Magnitude 13 or 14 in this image. Moonlight from a nearly full moon
made it difficult to get a better image of the galaxy but the supernova
imaged very well.

LX-200 10" f/10 telescope
SBIG STL-11000M camera
Stacked image using:
Luminance: 5 10 minute images bin 2
Red: 5 5 minute images bin 4
Green: 5 5 minute images bin 4
Blue: 5 5 minute images bin 4

Hi guys. Here is a wide field of the SMC that I think would be a nice addition to APOD archives, due its depth and color.
Here are some previous images of that object:

Jupiter on November 4th, 07:20ut, 07:38ut. ( Look While Crossing your Eyes for a 3D effect if you can) The Great storm GRS and Oval Ba are transiting across the Jovian disk and the moon Europa is seen coming from behind Jupiter.

A classic, the veil nebula

Post by joaferre » Mon Nov 05, 2012 5:43 pm

I needed more than 30 hours of total exposure to get this image of the veil nebula, supernova remnant in Cygnus, from my suburban observatory near Madrid (Spain). I tried to get a natural looking image whith minimal processing and trying to keep the colors of the stars and nebulae as "natural" as possible. I employed broadband Baader color (red, green and blue) filters and an Astronomik CLS-CCD filter for the luminance. The wide field was obtained thanks to a Takahashi FSQ106 scope and a SBIG STL11000 camera. To track the sky I used an ASA DDM85 mount obtaining about 400 five minutes subexposures.
I hope you enjoy the image.

M27 in a different way

Post by avdhoeven » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:32 pm

Here is an image of M27 I took last year and which I reprocessed using pixinsight. This way you don't see M27 very often...

Congratulations on your image of supernova SN2012fr in NGC 1365, handy13!

The blue color of the Type Ia supernova contrasts very nicely with the yellow color of the central parts of NGC 1365! :D

I would like to share my image of M33, a member of the Local Group of Galaxies.
It is a 10h exposure with my homemade 12" Newtonian.

This nebula is located about 6,000 light years away and extends through the cosmos some 70 light years. It is an area of star formation and gas shows quite bright in Ha and dark matter.

Best Regards.

I took this image, of Orion rising over Duffus Castle in Scotland, just after midnight on November 1, 2012, with a Canon EOS 60D DSLR and a Sigma EX 24-60 mm lens. The exposure was for 8 Seconds at f/3.2 and ISO-640. The scene was lit by an almost full Moon.

The elephant trunk

Post by avdhoeven » Tue Nov 06, 2012 10:40 pm

Recently I have been working on reprocessing old imagery using new software and techniques. This image improved a tremendous amount in noise and star colors...

This image is the result of the cooperation between three observers. Images were made with different equipment and combined to get this deep view of the Elephant Trunk nebula. About 17h of imagery was used:

Exposure info:

Skywatcher ED80/Tak FSQ85/Canon 300mm
Camera: SXV-H9/QSI583/Canon 40D
Exposure: 12x1800s Ha,
7x1800s OIII, 7x1800s S2 (1×1)
4 hours RGB

(Total time: 17 h)

Hubble image of NGC6357

Post by avdhoeven » Wed Nov 07, 2012 10:00 pm

A pillars of creation like image of the hubble is shown here. It was a processing I did for the Hubble hidden treasures competition and which I further processed using pixinsight to make it even nicer. I love this hubble image and I'm astonished this was never released this way by the Hubble team.... Maybe they will do this one one time...
