APOD is to blog a bit like Pluto is to planet!!! Small and beautifully formed, thought provoking and endlessly informative (not sure that Pluto is the last but APOD certainly is).

A blog (a truncation of the expression web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).

APOD is the best Blog on earth and is an informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). It is also interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via GUI widgets on the blogs, and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.

Though I voted APOD as a blog by today's standards, I would call it more of a proto-blog.
