The Soap Bubble sRGB.jpg
The Soap Bubble in the Nebulosity of Cygnus

The Soap Bubble Nebula, or PN G755.5+1.7, is found in the constellation Cygnus. The Soap Bubble is likely a symmetric planetary nebula, which is the expanding shell of ionized gas ejected from a star late in its lifetime. The faint nebula was discovered relatively recently in 2008 on photographs of the Cygnus region. Image was a total of 17 hr 20 min exposure taken with a Takahashi CCA-250 f/5 astrograph with a QSI683wsg camera (Astrodon Gen2 H-alpha filter 5 nm; O[III] 3 nm) on a Paramount ME on the nights of 2, 4, 5, 21, 25, 26, 29, 30 October 2016 in Mayhill, NM (26 x 1200 sec H-alpha lights @ -20 degrees; 26 x 1200 sec O[III] lights @ -20 degrees; 23 darks; 128 flats of each filter; 126 bias; processed in PixInsight 1.8.4.1195; color assigned in SHO-AIP Red = 90 % H-alpha; G = 10% H-alpha and 100% O[III]; Blue = 100% O[III]).

Last farewell to Danish aurora and milky way

Credits: Adrien Mauduit

As probably one of the last visible aurora display before the bright summer nights take over, we still have about four hours of darkness to enjoy nature's phenomena, but it is closing in on us at an awful speed! April 23rd's rather weak and pulsating aurora was the perfect occasion to go out and shoot aurora-milky way pictures, as some of the lasts shots before the long three month wait. You might spot some imperfections in the pictures (horizon, milky way...) because of the winds hurling down on me and my camera. Even my sturdy tripod experienced some leaps and vibration, along with sea foam being projected onto the lens!
I took the shot on Ordrupnæs around 2.30 am:

Before April snow

Credits: Adrien Mauduit

I was on Ordrupnæs (Denmark) two nights ago trying to catch a glimpse of the forecast solar storm. Unfortunately it is arriving just now, and our North-American friends are taking full advantage of it #teamtanner. As I was taking this panorama above the cliffs, a subtile red aurora was visible, but then I looked east and saw this humongous white front coming towards me. It was most definitely snow, illuminated by Denmark's high light pollution. The light on the left hand-side is residual zodiacal lights. I packed my camera and stormed back to my car in time before ending up in snowman! We are absolutely wondering when warmth is going to finally settle down here in Southern Scandinavia!

Under Denmark's cliffs

Credits: Adrien Mauduit

As I am back in cold Denmark, I decided to wake up at 1:30 am (Yes I'm crazy) to get a picture of the milky way and some potential aurora announced (you can see a faint red glow on the left hand side of the picture) before the 66% full moon rose. I took a ride to Vindekilde beach and shot this panorama under the beautiful cliffs. These cliffs are a geological treasure and testify about the last ice age (moraine buttes).

Windy aurora blast

Credits: Adrien Mauduit

Here is a panorama shot from two nights ago on Høve strand in Denmark around midnight, when the wind gusts were at their strongest! It was really hard getting any gear installed, yet harder to take stills without any vibration. I was lucky to have a very heavy and sturdy tripod with me, and even then the individual pictures of this pano were affected, with some star blur, which also came from the micro sea-water particles blasted off the Baltic and deposited onto the lens as I shot.
It was by far the most violent weather I've ever shot in, but then again totally worth it!
See how the milky way creates a perfect arch on top of the northern lights. This G2 peak enabled us to also witness the magnificent blue colors, coming from the nitrogen particles in the atmosphere.
Canon 6D + Samyang 24mm f/1.4, 14 vertical shots @ 14'', ISO 3200, f/2.8
