Ahh! looks to me like the chap is sticking his head outside our universe to see what is inside a parallel universe! Anyway, if that were possible; it would probably be dangerous! He'd be better off using a telescope or traveling in a spaceship!

As for the APOD, it looks to me as if the curious character is sticking his head through the firmament so he could see all the nuts and bolts and celestial spheres that the planets were supposed to be embedded in, and that made the Universe go round.

Actually it kind of makes spirals around the galaxy!
It would be interesting to color it digitally if the link went to that image. When I click the link it takes me to rather rudimentary images of planets, asteroids, & stars but not that image. I looked along the side but didn't see a possible match?

Just click on the image itself to get it as a large (2000x3000) image.

Thereβs getting to be an awful lot of them.

Last year I met someone who believed that the universe is literally as described in Genesis 1, with a flat Earth and a literal firmament. He told me that someone had once literally punched through the literal firmament, and the literal waters above the firmament literally poured though, as described in Genesis 7:11, although he could not give me a specific name, date, or location with which to verify the mishap.
I met him because I overheard him confidently telling people βThatβs the North Starβ while pointing at Jupiter.
It is hard not to be done with humanity.

Thanks,
Charles

Here is my attempt at using Photoshop to Color the Universe.
Still haven't figured out how to embed the image in this post, but at least here is a link to my photo website.
On my website, there is a "Buy Photo" button. That doesn't apply to this image. Feel free to copy/paste or screen capture it as you wish.

I think that's the earliest example of breaking the fifth wall that I've ever seen.

Amen, Brother Ricky. Is that someone in politics now?
