CO2 into rocket fuel

Elon Musk has announced on his Twitter that SpaceX is going to use CO2 to produce rocket fuel. What do you think of it?

By the way, such technology has already been successfully used by Canadian company Carbon Engineering.

Seems like whatever carbon removed from the atmosphere to create the fuel is just returned again when the fuel is used. And there's the question of what sort of carbon footprint is associated with the extraction and conversion process.

Need a bit more info here.
