Amazing automaton from the 18th century- what would Art have said?

Take a look at this video, featuring an absolutely amazing automaton from the 18th century. If you wind it up, it will write poems in French and English and draw four different pictures. Note its sweet facial expression, too, as it appears to "watch" what it is writing and drawing.

This automaton apparently inspired the movie Hugo. I so wonder what Art would have said about it - the automaton, I mean, not the movie.
