When I look at a picture on APOD I visualize myself in a spaceship looking out the window/viewscreen. Would there be a way to notate the pictures with something like this view would be XX light-years/million miles from the center of the object? Or do I need to figure it out based on the description of this picture shows a field of X light-years across?

When you look out a window, the view doesn't change depending on your distance from the window. That's not the case for a screen. Get closer to your screen, you are "closer" to the image by many light years. Look on your phone and you are much further away. So there's no way to assign a distance in this way, as it will be different for every screen and every viewer.
