Gravitational "Lensing Effect" of Galaxies (NGC 13

Post by NEBToDo » Thu Oct 06, 2005 9:20 pm

Distant galaxies beyond NGC 1350 can be seen thru and around it, even close to the center where a black hole most likely exists, but there doesn't seem to be any distortion of the light we are seeing due to gravitational lensing. Why not?
What is who? And why does that where? How do you know?

I can't see any galaxies that close to the centre.
I'm an Astrophysics Graduate from Keele University, England - doesn't mean I know anything but I might be able to help!

Look closer, esp. from the 9:00 to 12:00 quadrant - there are several.
