APOD 10 May 2006

In the description, it talks about a "prominent red knot on the right", but none of the red knots on the right are especially prominent, IMHO. Was the red knot towards the left the one that was supposed to be referred to? That one is very prominent. Any clarity would be appreciated.... Oh ...

Those are great links, PitotHeat. I've been visiting the webcam site for a while now. It's neat to see how Mt. St. Helens changes from day to day, and sometimes hour to hour.
Thanks for including them! :)

The circular asterism is indeed unusual! :D I, OTOH, would like to know which galaxy it is that looks as though it's about to be devoured by that cometary globule. Any help? EDIT: Nevermind, I found a detailed explanation here: http://www.noao.edu/image_gallery/html/im1000.html Hope that works. Anyw...

APOD for 25Nov05

I've been away for a bit, and trying to catch up on the latest APOD's. My question is: Does anyone know if this image is available for purchase anywhere?
I just think this is an awesome image!! :D
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know they're just sink holes? Also, per this statement: "while the crater's center is visible on the lower right," where in the lower right is the crater visible? I thought it was the crater towards the upper center? (I guess that's what thought did for me...

19Oct05 - Today's APoD

I had to stop my vehicle this morning to get a look at the close proximity of the Moon and Mars. Also took in Saturn, looking all bright and sparkly! Orion looked magnificent between them. Plus, I even saw the flash of an Orionid! What a perfect way to start the (boring!) work day! :D

I think is was Venus you, or army6894, were seeing. I'm not in Pensacola, but Sky & Telescope has a great interactive sky chart that you can specify your location and time, etc., and up comes the sky for that date/time/location. It's very informative. (at least, I get a lot of use from it!) I'll...

Today's pic almost looks like a mosquito in the face of the sun! It's a great pic, though. I enjoy each daily astronomy pic. I especially enjoy the many links that are included in the descriptions. I get a lot of useful info from those; learn a lot of things I didn't know - which isn't hard f...

jgabany,
How does one weed out "variances in the atmosphere"? I'm curious that there haven't been more 'false alarms' as far as supernovae, etc.

Today's APoD

I read the description for today's Astronomy Pic of the Day, and shouldn't the location of the supernova be almost directly below the center of the galaxy? The location listed has it being on "the right", but I see only a slight difference in a 'bright spot' on the right. Could there be tw...
