Re: APOD: The Lunar X (2016 Dec 10)

It's a nice image. I like such images of the Moon because I can also see by naked eye the large features on its side that faces Earth. I may not have spotted the Lunar V without the annotated image brought up through the "For extra credit" link. In the inset image on the APOD there is a di...

Re: APOD: Aurora over Jupiter's South Pole... (2016 Dec 06)

I've learnt a new word in the information brought up through the "this dramatic infrared image" link, namely "perijove". As perigee is the nearest between two objects I assume perijove is the nearest to Jupiter (here as 'perijove pass' of Juno). By jove it will, using the old ex...

It's a fascinating image taken during a remarkably successful mission . It will be sad to see it end but it will at least go out in a blaze of glory.

That would be an interesting bar code that the rings pattern shows in the image .

Re: APOD: Pluto's Sputnik Planum (2016 Nov 22)

It's an excellent image. I like Pluto but I would clearly need extra thermals with it being so :brr:. In the explanation it states the image "was taken last July" which I think is confusing as that could be interpreted to be July 2016 and not July 2015 that I feel certain it was tak...

Re: APOD: Nova over Thailand (2016 Nov 21)

Re: APOD: The Hydrogen Clouds of M33 (2016 Oct 07)

At the vast distance to the Triangulum Galaxy there will presumably be no noticeable visual change in a view from Earth for a very long time. According to information in Danilo Pivato's website the image is a remake of one taken "2008.08.31 (L) - 2009.08.21 (Ha)" so a more recent view wil...

I had to read the caption a few times and look at the picture a few more to be sure which object is Mars.
