Re: APOD: Pluto: From Mountains to Plains (2015 Dec 14)
To aid discussion, I'm trying to upload a copy of the wide pic from JPL with various features that I've circled. But it appears that I can only link to a picture on the 'Net - I can't paste one here. I'm sure I've done that before - have things changed? Is there a way to paste a picture into a post...

Re: APOD: Pluto: From Mountains to Plains (2015 Dec 14)
I don't understand why the interface here is being described as a "shoreline". The "mountainous" terrain is clearly a landslide of some sort, and has simply flowed out over the flat plain. Which may well have been liquid at some point. But this interface is not a shoreline. http...

Interesting. "There go those black holes – making gravity waves again" Well not exactly.RJN wrote:FYI: http://www.pnas.org/content/112/49.cover-expansion
And I thought gravity waves were hard to find. Just needed to go to APOD to see them.

Today's APOD would have made a good jacket cover for Seveneves . Venus could nicely double for the "agent" that leaves Earth in a pickle likely proving one man's Venusian hell is another's Cytherian heaven . Luckily Venus really missed (by around 60 million miles??) and we live to see anot...

Considering that both of these galaxies were in motion it's curious that the galaxy on the left seemed to have retained more material and remained uninfluenced than the right hand galaxy - NGC 3808A. It's always a great time to have a comet zoom into our view of the universe around the new year . I liked this link to Sky and Telescope better although the one provided was a bit more recent. This picture is very interesting, but a bit too math-heavy for me. So in the hopes of getting some explanations, I'll try to explain what I see and ask for some clarifications. At left there is what looks to me like a sort of "table-top" which has been cut through so you see the material ...

They each have intrigued scientists since they were conceptualized with many theories put forward about how...

Is that a filling station I see around that gas giant? Well – maybe one day. I suppose Enceladus could fill that role instead… Not giving too much away Sandford, et al really tried to keep the science in science fiction.

2) Minimalist change from original post: Aurigae Nebulae I'd say Nebulae Aurigarum . But then my question would have been why is the title in Latin? If I'd written the title, I'd have gone with Nebulas in Auriga . Perfectly correct and maximal accessibility. If I'd written the title, I'd have gone ...

Why does the title use the genitive form of Auriga? Also - should it be " Nebulārum ?" Genitive forms are "greek" to me and Latin to many others but it's an interesting question that made me look. In English - Nebulas in Auriga? I also think it's interesting AE Auriga is a runaw...
