APOD: A Horizon with Blue and Red (2017 Dec 05)

Post by APOD Robot » Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:05 am

Image A Horizon with Blue and Red

Explanation: What's happening on the horizon? The horizon itself, past a spinach field in Guatemala, shows not only trees but a large volcano: the Volcn de Fuego (Volcano of Fire). The red glow at the top of the volcano is hot lava. But your eye may also be drawn to the blue circle above the horizon on the left. This circle surrounds the Moon and, together with other colors, is called a corona. A corona is caused by diffraction of light -- here moonlight -- by small water droplets in the Earth's intervening atmosphere. A break in the clouds on the right shows stars and even the planet Saturn far beyond the volcano. Although Volcn de Fuego frequently undergoes low-level activity, the astrophotographer considered himself lucky to capture the scene just during an explosive eruption in late September.

<<Spinach, along with other green, leafy vegetables, contains an appreciable amount of iron attaining 21% of the Daily Value in a 100 g (3.5 oz) amount of raw spinach (table). A long-lasting persistent myth is that spinach contains significantly more iron than other green vegetables. The source behind the myth was a study from the 1930s which misplaced a decimal point and thus made it appear as if spinach contained ten times as much iron as it really did. The comics and cartoon character Popeye the Sailor Man has been portrayed since 1931 as having a strong affinity for spinach, becoming physically stronger after consuming it.>>

He’s lucky he didn’t end up “Poopy” the Sailor Man. And the missing iron wasn’t going to help.

The spinnach could still have made him stronger depending on its source. :?:
