I had forgotten about that episode. It was titled "For the earth is hollow and I have touched the sky." Long title though

It looks like one of the real ones to me but I was only 10 at the time, though I do remember my microbiology professor at Los Angeles Community College bringing in some similar photos in 1972 or 73 (It might even have been a National Geographic).

There was an episode of Star Trek (TNG, or Voyager) that delt with this idea. The ship was refered to as a "Generational Ship". An interesting idea though.

The galactic center lies in Sagittarius which is just now, along with the galactic center, beginning to move behind the sun. The GLIMPSE swath of the galactic plane sits in the constellation NORMA which is near Scorpio. This has already passed the sun by. So although they are close together, I don't...

This is one of Harry's links. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap040411.html I have a couple of questions about this image. 1) Is the single small bright spot in the exact center of the image the galactic center or is it the two larger but slightly less luminous patches slightly to the right of cent...

Harry, You sure are great for spawning discussions. :D . Just a curiosity on the Egg subject though: Bird eggs are hard shelled and require an incubation period to hatch. If the egg gets cold, the embryo will perish. If the bird egg came first, who laid it and who incubated it? If the bird was creat...

It is approaching that point but was visible yesterday. It was about 2 fists (20deg?) away from the sun. It will soon disappear until it becomes the morning star again.

I am going to look again today at 3:30 and see if I can find it.

DECEMBER MOON MEETS EVENING STAR

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap051209.html Did you know that if you knew where to look you could see venus during the day time. I found it easily on December 4th at about 2 pm due to its close proximity to the moon. I was also able to locate it at 3:30 pm on Dec 6th, 7th, and 8th. I guess Venus ...

IF, there is oil on the moon, and we DID go looking for it, it would not be a viable energy source onEarth as it would be too cost prohibitive to extract and return it to earth. it would only be usable there or to go beyond from there.

since the fall occurs over the span of millions of years it would probably go unnoticed by the masses during the individual lifetime. Those planetary systems that were near to the center would be subject to such a violent environment that life would probably be non existant long before the end came.

A trip anywhere might be good, but as for "Great", aside from being physically able to stand and observe first hand on another local planet or moon (which would be great given our current advances), being able to travel to other solar systems would be truly great. Lets face it, we probably...

I would imagine that If you were on a planet within the sphere of influence of the explosion that caused the Crab Nebula, you might be in a lot of trouble right now, If you survived. If you were in a system that was outside the bubble but close, the visible light would be (Slightly to moderately) di...

My best guess would be to look to the Hellas impact basin as the cause for the planet wide vaporization of any water that was there. The lower gravity on Mars would then add to the effect of Loss to space.

I know that the expanding universe theory is based upon the fact that some galaxies are red shifted in the spectrum (doppler effect) causing us to perceive them as moving away from us, while those shifting into the blue end of the spectrum are percieved as moving towards us. The further we see into ...
