Leonid Meteor Shower 2022

Post by Orca » Tue Nov 15, 2022 7:31 pm

It’s pretty rare in my area to see the Leonids. There is generally a high chance of cloud cover between October and June, so winter star watching is limited to short islands of clear, cold weather. You have to be ready to drop what your doing, break out the telescope, and grab that coat and warm beverage! On the plus side, the clear nights we do have are some of the best viewing conditions with the cold, dry air. Another bonus is that it’s dark by 5 PM, which is handy. I have always loved the winter stars, so many great viewing targets!

The peak for the Leonids is this Friday Nov 18, and we just might get a glimpse! The moon won’t be up until after 1:00 AM and will be just shy of a quarter, so not too much interference there.
