Obviously it's actually Dark Matter under "them there hills". Fits perfectly into a couple of prospects. It's a "Wimpy" moon that looks "Macho" How much more proof do you need?? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Re: APOD: Edge on NGC 3628 (2013 Jun 20)

The "Milky Road" guy http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap090613.html certainly has a lot on his mind. Please pardon my unsophisticated ways. Who could direct me to a good course on using code? I seem to fail at this a lot.

Re: APOD: Milky Way Over Crater Lake with Airglow (2013 Jun

For an image as nice as this, it's one of the better effects of light pollution. If I were Irish I might claim it to be a more imaginary glow. :lol2: Truly a Celestial rainbow of a different hue. I missed the picture from a year ago. It was equally dazzling and thought provoking. Thanks to all invol...

Any idea why the two areas of red on each horizon at the Milky Way band? I suspected the more prominent on the left to be sunset but why the other on the right? :?:

Re: APOD: Omega Centauri: The Brightest... (2013 May 01)

Interesting. Makes one wonder if that is related to the relative flatness of a spiral galaxy and the speroidal shape of a cluster? Of course aren't clusters mostly found in the halo of our galaxy? Wow too many questions to expect to be answered. :)
Thanks Chris!!

Re: APOD: Omega Centauri: The Brightest... (2013 May 01)

In that Vera Rubin and many others have measured that most stars in spiral galaxies orbit at roughly the same speed relative from the distance to their centers, have others quantified this effect relative to clusters? Art just mentioned that lighter stars tend to speed around the periphery of cluste...

Re: 10 reasons

Art - You picked two of my most favorite people to answer my question. As a better visual/audio learner, it is so fun to listen to the video clips of Richard Feynman to get a sense of the man he turned out to be. I often wish I could appreciate Isaac Asimov in a similar manner. Perhaps I could do tw...

Re: APOD: M64: The Black Eye Galaxy (2013 Apr 04)

Thanks for your replies. I always appreciate all of your time and knowledge. I lose track of the notion that a black hole is a point-like object. A collision of two oppositely spinning points seems to me a more natural event. (Don't ask me why) The matter in the accretion discs does still seem to be...

Re: APOD: M64: The Black Eye Galaxy (2013 Apr 04)

Say the two galaxies had rotating black holes at their center. I suspect the rotation for each would be in the same orientation as their respective galaxies. Should an interaction between the two black holes occur, I am curious if the black holes opposite spin would have peculiar properties:?: I hav...

Re: APOD: Milky Way Panorama from Mauna Kea (2013 Mar 10)

From my memory Cygnus looks more rotated at this latitude(43.7 N) so the head of the Swan is pointed upward. The Southern Cross, in this photo, appears upright as it did in this APOD http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap080707.html taken from a position near the South Pole. I would expect a similarly rotated...
